One of four 'sister' ensembles directed by Contrapuncts Early Music's own David Acres, The King's Counterpoint was co-founded in 2014 by David and CEM's Executive Artistic Director - and Charleston-area native - Dr. Judith Overcash Acres.

Based in Charleston, South Carolina, The King’s Counterpoint has as it's primary mission the exploration of the variety and beauty found in a cappella vocal music. As with Contrapunctus, The King’s Counterpoint strives to create exceptional and uncommon programs, always presented within an historical context - whether the setting is the Middle Ages or the 21st century, extensive programmatic literature, art work, dialogues, and polyphony are combined to both entertain and educate the listener.

The King's Counterpoint is the youngest of the three ensembles managed by the Acres, but has at its foundation a wealth of choral experience and excellence, all presented within the context of one of the most historically-rich cities in the United States. Founded in 1670, Charleston is the oldest city in the state of South Carolina, and was named Charles Town in honor of King Charles II of England - the namesake of our ensemble.
